Did You Know That September 23 was National Voter Registration Day? It's not too late to register to vote!

Hey Citizens! Just a quick reminder:

September 23 was National Voter Registration Day and I want to make sure you are registered to vote.

My wife, Donna, won her School Board Race by 1 vote!  I don't want to chance missing your vote on Election day (Nov 4, 2014).
  • Did you move since the last election and haven’t checked your voter registration in a while?

  • Do you have a son or daughter who recently turned 18 who hasn’t yet registered to vote?

  • Do you know people who support me and want to make sure they’re registered too?

All the high fives and financial support won’t matter if my supporters aren’t registered to vote.  Thanks to a change in state law, registering to vote is easier than ever:

To double check that your voter registration is active, click here.

To register to vote online, click here.

In Sangamon County, to request an absentee ballot via online, click here.

Please share this message with friends and family.  Thank you for everything you’re doing to help me win!

Enjoy this lovely weather.  I'm off to walk in the District and meet more great people like you, which is why I do this.

How Does The County Board Keep Track of Their Workload?

How Does The County Board Keep Track of Their Workload?

The County Board functions on a committee structure. These committees do the "work" of the Board by reviewing expenditures and policies and plans.

For example, as mentioned on the Facebook page, the Finance Committee has general jurisdiction over county finances; advises the county auditor; and prepares an annual budget and tax levy.

These "oversight" committees look at expenditures and general policy initiatives of the various departments of the County.  Of course, if an Office Holder is in charge of that Department, like, say, the County Clerk, the same oversight takes place but the Office Holder sets his or her own policy initiatives within the scope of that office.

In other words, the Board still oversees the budget for that office, but the Clerk's has his/her own policies.  So there the Board makes sure that proper hiring procedures are followed, etc.
Here is a list of the current standing committees:

We May Add a Bacon Tasting Committee!

    Executive Board
    Building & Grounds
    Civil Liabilities
    Collective Bargaining
    Community Resources
    Court Services
    Election Oversight
    Employee Services
    Finance
    Jail
    Liquor
    OEM/911
Public Health & Solid Waste & Zoning
    Road & Bridge

Until next time....that's my view from the County Building.

Monday, September 22, 2014

My name is Tim Moore.   I'm running to represent the South-West-Central part of Springfield on the Sangamon County Board.

I’m a Springfield native, who returned home after some time in the Army, where I met my lovely wife, Donna.

We have seven (yes, not a typo!) children.  Chances are, our kids are better known to you than I am. Or, you and I may have spoken recently, as went door-to-door electioneering prior to Nov 4th. (sorry if I missed you!).

Will Rogers
This blog is an attempt to let you know what issues arise from the Sangamon County Board and it's monthly dealings and oversight of spending.   I'm no Will Rogers, but hope to address issues with humor and some insight.

Some of these issues may be directly related to County Government.  Other issues may focus on the City of Springfield or other cities and towns, or perhaps as an issue may affect the School District or other governing body (of which there are many). Sometimes I may just talk about bees or my fledgling orchard that is located in rural Sangamon County.

I may also try to post an interview or two here.  But as this is an election-focused blog, it'll mainly serve as fodder for my campaign until further notice.

I will attempt to update this blog every other week, but sometimes more or less based on the issues or season or my otherwise hefty schedule.

I’ll likely post here and there, and let you know on FaceBook as well.  I’ll set up a special FB page for this.  But until then, check here.

I welcome your questions and comments.  And while healthy discussion is always appreciated, I don’t get into personalities or bad language, etc.  However, feel free to use your #$%#^*!  Words, I’ll get the message!

Until next time, whether I see you on the street or in the store or at Church or at a game, please say hello.
